The palace in Eferding, Austria’s third oldest town, has been owned by the Starhemberg royal family for centuries. This historic site features a variety of architectural styles from different eras, which all blend harmoniously with each other. The palace is first mentioned in the annals in 1255. The north wing, now the oldest part of the palace, was subsequently built around 1416, and is now home to the palace library, the Starhemberg Royal Museum and the City Museum. The east wing, known as the “Verwaltungsstöckl“ or administrative building, dates from the 15th century. Around 1784, Georg Adam, Prince von Starhemberg, created the south and west wing in classical style. This produced the enclosed inner courtyard with arcades and arches. The south wing of the palace offers a magnificent view of the palace gardens. The palace currently serves as the cultural office for the region.
