Hardegg Castle is one of the most powerful and best maintained Austrian castles of the early middle age and one of the oldest in middle Europe.

Situated on the Czeck border, it rises above the National Park and the Thaya Valley from its stone hill.

What to see: the fortifications and the castle rooms, the romanesque chapel, Emperor Maximilian of Mexico Museum, unique in the world, the Castle story and the Prince of Khevenhüller-Metsch Exhibition, a follower and close collaborator of Emperor Maximilian in Mexico.

The armoury and dungeon can only be seen with a guided tour.
